I appreciate bands being honest but this is a bit too much. They should spend more time talking about themselves.
Angel fans avoid pages 47 & 48 if you don't want to read this stuff!!!!!!

The Godz vs Angel |

I just got the latest issue of Classic Rock magazine and was amazed to see a 3 page article on The Godz. I was even more amazed to discover that they used to
tour with Angel a lot and considered them to be "scumbags" and "Spinal Tap". They then go on to be very specific in their criticism of
certain members of the band with Punky & Gregg getting direct shots.

Hmm....this is in direct contrast to what they thought at the time. They got on extremely well with Angel and were actually there to protect the band in the
aftermath of the infamous fight with security at San Diego in 1978 ("to get to Angel you've got to go through The Godz first!"), so I find it
interesting that there is all these cheap shots now...unless they were encouraged to do so by the author of the article or things were taken out of context.
Who wrote the piece???

I should have added that they did talk about protecting Angel - my mistake and well remembered Dave.

MAHOGANY RUSH, & LEE AARON, & APRIL WINE, & OFFENBACH, & THE BLUSHING BRIDES, & STARZ,,etc,etc.....AD INFINITUM....

Good points! Most of these bands get a fleeeting comment but no real coverage. Reynoroxx has put it so clearly before - these are the journos that got us in
to the music (UK at least) - and now they abandon them (apparently) and you get a 3 page feature on The Godz. How mnay UK fans have a Godz album? Sadly, I
do.

I know i got a hoot reading on how the guy from The Godz went to prison for a bar room slaying, And he's marvelling on how WIERD Punky was!! LOL... Low
rent!! It was cool how The Godz interceded in Angel's defence, but Punky could take care of himself quite well, Thank You Very Much!!

i have communication with Bob Hill from the Godz. i will ask him about this. but as I recall i talked to him about this once before and he made some sort of
sarcastic comment about "punky's hair acting up from time to time" also as i recall there are no really true hard feelings there but i will run
it by him. could make for some more good angel/godz stories. if you can, please can you post/scan the article for me to read. or email me the article. let me
say in advance that i am not trying to start anything. Bob Hill from the Godz is a great guy and tells a good story. it has been a long long time and i know
for a fact its all water under the bridge. it would however be nice to have all sides of the story from as many involved as we can. i want to keep the memories
of those great years alive. thats why im here. so please if you can wombat, get that article to me here or at muc_rake@yahoo.com.
thanx. great topic, lets get into it.

Just read the article todaty at the news stand.....while the comments about Punky and Greg would be standard fare I do feel there is a degree of bravado about
the anecdotes on Angel. I find it hard to believe that a member of the support band would be able to substitute a can of hairspray for glue and still be on the
tour the next day. I also think the Godz version of events at the San Diego gig in 78 have seemingly been distorted by time...the security at that show may
very well have thought Angel were "fags" but that was not the reason for why the whole thing kicked off. The problems stemmed from the security
hitting fans for no reason and basically acting like goons. Frank got in a fist fight with them, the road crew got involved and Punky poured beer on security
and hit one with a bottle. The Godz escorted Angel back to the dressing room. So much for Angel being scumbags...if you're a scumbag then you get left to
sort your own problems out.
In an interview with Eric Moore in 'Metal Forces' magazine back in 1986 he had this to say on the subject: ". ..the security there was worse than Alabama cops. They gave us hassle, so we blasted a couple of 'em, so when we got off stage they knew they weren't gonna mess with us.....we got word that Angel couldn't get off the stage. So we strapped on our guns and went over and got them." On the subject of touring with Angel he said: "We had the same record company and the same agency. It was a natural package. We were in black leather and they were in white satin. It was a killer show. We were the opening act. It's my job to make the audience ready for the headliner - I'm not there to blow them off - and The Godz were real good at that. We got our point across and got the crowd ready for Angel." |

Having seen the Godz open for Angel a day or so earlier, at Long Beach Arena, I can report that the Godz were an incredble opening act. The act sandwiched
between Angel & The Godz, "Head East" were virtually ignored by the crowd.
