March 1978. i went to my very 1st concert In NYC I was 16. It was Angel / Judas Preist / The Godz.at the pallidium on 14th st. i have seen no less than 50 shows there during the 70's and 80's. It been a long time but as i recall we went to see Preist i think. it was the Exciter tour. Well I had never heard a PA before so as soon as the godz started i was all blown back. It was loud and i was toasted. I loved it. The entire show i still remember like it was yesterday. But this is the Angel page so here is what i remember about them. They came on stage doing the stacked boxes routine. after the Angel logo appeared, spoke, and turned upside down. which was also right side up !!! It was really cool. I very clearly remember punky had a bottle of Heinkien in his hand when he appeared. We were in the 3rd row but by the time Angel came on we were in the front on punkys side. They began to play and punky proceeded to pose in front of us for the entire show. The guy i went with had a camera. I remember seeing all the pictures about 25 years ago but i have lost contact with this dude. that is the bad news. the good news is that i did have one photo blown up in to an 8 x 10 and i still have it today. I can scan it and email it for someone to post if you think its worth the time. I kick myself every month or so for not getting copies of all of them, but back then it was not so easy to do with negatives and all. I also have the Angel t shirt i bought that night. it is in very worn condition, but i still got it. They were loud. really loud. I did not really know their material so in the next few weeks i would go buy all their stuff. They were a great live band. They really seemed to enjoy themselves. Punky seemed very concerned about his hair all the time. it was pretty funny. I remember the keyboard solo was insane. made my head spin. He had this portable keyboard and a strange wand of some sort. I remember the logo spinning and because of this experience at this concert i have since been addicted to heavy metal. These guys put on a great show. many of the concerts i have seen since did not measure up to angel including led zep, frampton and floyd the same year. There music was great and i can still listen to it today. Thats more than i can say for ELP.
well thanx for hearing me out and hope to chat it up a bit with everyone. also i went to youtube today. (recently got my 1st pc) and i was thrilled to see frank and his band still out there playing angel rock and roll and keeping angel rock and roll alive ! good for him. he always has a smile on his face in the videos so i hope he is enjoying still playing.
the mucster.
