The Godz & Angel - | ||

We didn't get Judas Priest out on the West Coast. They had a different act sandwiched in
between. "Head East".
And about a month later, we had Angel again, with local talent, "Quiet Riot" featuring Randy Rhoads. {It was also original QR bassist Kelly Garni's last show, before being replaced w/ Rudy Sarzo} |

I changed my name from Acrid Smoke To Heavy Metttle. Some guy had heavymettle in EZboard and I didn't think to add a T until after I registered. I use
Heavy Mettle in some other forums, the Y&T forum being one of them. Ok,enough of that.

For all their talk of The Godz being these black leather clad guys as opposed to Angel's white satin look and Eric Moore's belief in the pages of
'Classic Rock' that it was the image that caused the hassle in San Diego, I don't see too much black leather in those photos........and that silver
shirt is pretty glam for a biker band...........I love The Godz but I thought that interview was a bit much after all these years and the real facts in terms
of that show being already well known.

i was at the show at the pallidium in NYC. they played 2 nights in a row. i have posted a great picture of punky from the march 10th show that my buddy took
that night.. it is the only one i still have. the topic is titled "hello angel fans"
did you take the pictures of the godz yourself? i have seen these pictures before somewhere and i understood them to be from a different show? I do not know for sure so if you took them then that would clear it up. thanx muc |

I was also at that Angel show, Front row, righ tin front of Punky's spot. Had to use cigarette filters for earplugs, Priest was so loud, the P.A. sound
vibrated right the f*ck thru us!...We like the Godz, but Angle kicked ass. That was where Punky looked at me, did a double-take and looked over at Mickie,
because back then, we had the exact same hairstyle and length. Punky gave his Heinikin beer bottle to a freind of mine next to me and when he put his hand in
hers, she looked in shock, because in her had was 2 or 3 of Punky's finger picks (plectrums), and he smiled at her, and winked at me, lol...
Years later, at a NAMM show in L.A., I hung with Mark Chatfield and Eric Moore of the Godz, I was introduced to them by a guy who was working w/ me on a band project and he was from Ohio, and knew them...and I was trying to get Barry Brandt a new drum endorsement deal because Angel had been so out of the loop for so long...Barry is like the 'poster boy' for A.D.D., attention-span of a gnat, lol...like a big kid...Mark goes: "F*CK! Rik knows EVERYBODY!!!, and we all laughed, I was dragging Barry around by his shirtsleeve to get him to pay attention to his own needs of the endorsement he was looking for...What a weekend! But yeah, I was at that Palladium ANGEL, Judas Priest/ Godz show. Also saw Angel there with Legs Diamond and Piper opening... Rik |

black leather or not, the godz were certainly an ugly band and looked like they had those clothes on for like a week!!! i think that was the point he was
making with that interview, that the godz were more "anti-image", and obviously angel were not......

I love the Godz music and their look. this topic has come up before and i asked Bob Hill about it. Here is a quote from him which validates your anti-image
comment. Good observation there Badtime,
"We did appear with Angel a few times. IIRC, I personally didn't have any "relationship" with that band. Other GODZ members might have. It was more like those scenes in "Spinal Tap" in which they toured with a more popular band and resented it somewhat. Angel were very good-looking; we were more....representative of the general population. Each morning the two bands would criss-cross in the hotel lobby and head out to the next gig. In the morning, we looked like Keith Richards looks now. Angel looked just like they had during song one of their set the night before. That's all I really remember about that subject." footnote Bob Hill is a great guy and tells a good story. i beleive he was the sane one in the band. muc out |

haha, thank you muc!!! reminds me of my old thrash metal band i had on the east coast, we just dressed like regular metal guys and would always play gigs with
those black and death metal bands that wore all the armor and makeup!!!!
