Oh yeah . . . . | ||
|
That's me all right - I PROVOKE . . . but I don't mean to! That's actually a captured still from the end of a limited edition video I made for
Starz with clips from the 2004 tour. A version was included in the Starz Songbook, but I edited my shoes out of it. Did Angel wear those big high heeled shoes?
White ones I suspect? PG

Yes, they wore the big platforms boots {see vids.}. Punky started a fashion trend that many later hairbands would adopt. He wore these very expensive Italian
dance shoes, white, flatheeled, pointed, on & off the stage. [Again see vids. Sorry, i've forgotten the Italian name. They looked quite cool!! Greg
& Punky being tall 6 footers did not need heels...

Now THAT's a fun topic! I seem to remember a couple photos of Dube in some groovy flat shoes (Dube, being 6'2", didn't need heels either).
I'll see if I can find some photos. Maybe they are the same brand? Must be a "tall rock star" thing???

The brand name you are seeking, is "CAPEZIOS".

i checked with Dube, the drummer for Starz and he replied:
"Though I had a pair of platform shoes for costume completion and standing-around-looking-cool- purposes, I certainly couldn't play the drums in them. For playing, I only wore Capezios: very flat heel, thin suede sole, thin leather uppers." Ace, you a 'shoe' guy? (thanks!) PG |

RE: Capezio's. | ||

PG, Especially in L.A. any rocker had to have a pair of Capezio's... They were very
comfortable. Was I a "shoe guy"? Well... It was always about "a look". We always had our stage clothes which included, at different times,
platform boots, stiletto heeled boots, hi heeled cowboy boots, capezios, etc. I remember one "low key" last minute gig, & an ex girlfriend
razzed me afterwards for not being true to the image & "being lazy" by wearing tennis shoes onstage. Y'know what? She was right. I never
did that again.
As for Capezio's ... Kevin DuBrow is wearing them here on the cover of Quiet Riot's 2nd album.

Oh . . . I just remember when Starz played Don Hill's. The van was in the front. I guess because the stage was in the front. Don Hill's was very tiny.
Thanks, Weave! PG

Thanks Axxellein.
I've been away from the Starz board too long and now there's Angel, Trigger and 70s Rock boards all in the same place upon my return. Nice work PG :0) I currently don't do much in the way of writing (don't mention 'Classic Rock' to me.....), but I've just submitted the liner notes for Rock Candy's reissue of the 'Runners In The Night' album due out next month. It was an honour to be asked to do that job as I'm a huge fan of the group. Even got to talk to Desmond, Maria Vidal and my old friend Diana Grasselli in the process. |

So cool to reconnect!! ... Dave, from decades of reading, analysing {and mostly moaning about} a plethora of Rock reviews, your incisive, well balanced, well
informed opinions expressed in 'Metal Forces' & 'Kerrang" were the absolute pinnacle of Rock writing anywhere!!..No one instinctively
understood the M.O.R/A.O.R gendre[s], it's various roots, offshoots, directions, & aspirations better..Certainly not in England!!... NWOBHM,..Red hot
Canadian bands.....Emerging Euro. hopefuls, obscure American acts & of course the classic 70's bands!!.. Your top 100 , so eloquent,, Angel/st # 1 Says
it all!!...You guys were always nailing it on the point & expressing said in a sober yet enthusiastic manner.. A shame about "Classic
Rock''...Fantastic potential showcase, regularly spoilt by a ''revisionist" mindset, alas so prevalent today;............ ,,,, I salute,
Sir, your unique integrity firmly rooted in a faultless historic context, & look forward to exchanging ideas, opinions within this great chatsite!!...Habs
& Philly, Wings vs Colorado..Ongoing Stanley Cup mania.. Beat goes on...Hockey fever...., Only in Canada you say?.. Pity!!...

Can the Penguins go all the way this year???? Perhaps a subject best suited for one of the other boards the lovely PG has given us access to here :0) |

Glad to have you here! Metal Forces was a great thing, I read everything you & Kelv had to
say.
Plus, MF was very kind to give those of us from the Sunset Strip bands, UK exposure. I'm forever in your debt! ACE |

Ace,
Those were the days. MF was a fantastic mag. It certainly gave others much to think about at the time. It had a great mixture of bands and had a fantastic following amongst both glam and thrash fans. I still remember Actress!!! :0) Cheers Dave |

Thank you so much, Dave! | ||

I am truly honored that you remember my band, "ACTRESS" .... (cheap plug here!)
METAL FORCES was unique in that is covered Glam, Thrash, Pomp, & everything in between, without the fans of each genre fighting. MF is the first place many fans first heard of Anthrax, Poison,Pantera (who were a glam band at the time!), and many others. It was truly a revolutionary publication. I remember when it first dawned on me how unique it was, when Pantera, in their unsigned, glam days came to L.A. & played the Whiskey A Go Go... I went by in the afternoon to see my friend, the house sound guy, & ran into "Diamond" Darrell... he knew my name right off, from reading MF & we had a nice conversation about music, KISS, & how cool this "underground" magazine, METAL FORCES was. |
