To state that someone is the "Best of anthing" is very subjective. There are musicians I think are the best at something and other do not agree and
vice vesa.
Dio has his place among singers like all the others.

I will agree with you that Dio is ONE of the best. As far as the best....simply an opinion that can't be based on anything factual. Dio is in my top 5
for sure....maybe top 3. But you have to look at Rob Halford from Judas Priest, Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden, Ray Gillen from various bands...Ozzy and
even my #1 Bon Scott from AC/DC. Just tossing this out there. Just an FYI, below is the list from Hit Parader. Please note Dio's spot. P.S.....Kurt
Cobain at 20....uh, no....maybe 200.
01. Robert Plant 02. Rob Halford 03. Steven Tyler 04. Chris Cornell 05. Bon Scott 06. Freddie Mercury 07. Bruce Dickinson 08. Ozzy Osbourne 09. Paul Rodgers 10. Ronnie James Dio 11. Axl Rose 12. Sammy Hagar 13. Geddy Lee 14. Geoff Tate 15. Mick Jagger 16. Jonathan Davis 17. Roger Daltrey 18. Paul Stanley 19. David Lee Roth 20. Kurt Cobain 21. Maynard James Keenan 22. Klaus Meine 23. Eddie Vedder 24. James Hetfield 25. Trent Reznor

ARENA,( IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN). RJD THE BEST? NOT THE BEST, BUT HE IS IN MY TOP TEN. THERE IS A D.J. IN FORT WAYNE WHO NICKNAMED DIO (THE LITTLE DEMON
LEPRECHAUN) LOL. HE IS 5-4 AND FULL OF LUNGS AND ATTITUDE !!!

I looked at that list again and realized they placed the guy from Korn above Robert Daltrey, Paul Stanley and Diamond Dave. The guy from Soundgarden above
Freddie Mercury, Bon Scott, Bruce Dickinson, Dio, Ozzy...Why can't those list guys just admit that grunge singers sucked?
Also, Klaus Meine dosn't deserve that bottom end of that list. He's surrounded by crap.

metaltitans wrote: See... I go away for a week, and I miss an interesting thread like this! I love Dio, and he is certainly in the top 10 - His song "The Last In Line" is one of my favorite metal songs! If you would ask anyone besides Ronnie who the best is, they would point to one man...OZZY!! Yes, I'm a bit biased because I love Ozzy, but take another listen to early Sabbath songs and you will hear it for yourself!

Gotta wonder what AC/DC would have sounded like with Udo singing had he taken the job after Bon (RIP)?? I love Accept too. London Leather Boys is a killer
track. As for Dio, I love his solo stuff too. He blows me away with the Sabbath tune, The Mob Rules. A classic track.

It was a shame he had to die, i was just listening to one of their songs ( jail break ) on the radio with him singing.

I concur with Metaltitans - Ronnie James Dio is IMHO the greatest metal singer that ever lived, followed closely by Rob Halford. Dio and Halford are also among
my favorite singers period. That list also includes Paul Stanley, Marvin Gaye, Paul Rodgers, Frank DiMino, Michael Lee Smith, Ian Gillan and Steve Marriot.

As Tenacious D say in the song about Dio " Dio has rocked for a long, long time,
Now it's time for him to pass the torch. He has songs of wildebeests and angels, He has soared on the wings of a demon. It's time to pass the torch, You're too old to rock, no more rockin' for you. We're takin' you to a home, But we will sing a song about you. And we will make sure that you're very well taken care of. You'll tell us secrets that you've learned. Raow! Your sauce will mix with ours, And we'll make a good goulash baby. Dio, time to go! You must give your cape and scepter to me. And a smaller one for KG. Go! Go! Dio! Dio! " |
